RESPONSIBILITY FOR SAFETY. There are certain risks, which are inherent in any hike, or other Club activity. Each KTC member, guest, or non-member hiker agrees to accept personal responsibility for his or her safety and the safety of minors accompanying such persons. The Club cannot ensure the safety of any participant on hikes. In participating in Club hikes, each such person agrees to hold harmless and free from blame the hike leaders, the KTC, its officers and members, and property owners, for any accident, injury, or illness which might be sustained from participating in hikes or other Club activities.

IMPORTANT!

  • Read all hike descriptions!
  • Know your limitations!
  • Carry water!!
  • Notify leader if you choose to leave the hike!
  • Hike Leader has the right to refuse any unprepared person from a hike!

THE MEETING PLACE: Hikers are to meet at the Stonewall Station Post Office Parking Lot - corner of Ohio & Randolph Streets on the West Side of Charleston to car pool to hike locations unless the schedule specifically indicates another meeting place (or time).

Allow 1-1/2 hr. drive time - Hike Claylick Loop Approx. 6 miles mostly flat, one steep hill

Sat. May 10th 11:00 a.m. - WALK IT UP! EVENT - EAST END WALK
Approx. 5K or 3.1 miles meet at the War Memorial at the Capitol for a loop walk around the Capitol, Kanawha Blvd., & Virginia Street. (You may want to come early and enjoy browsing the East End Yard Sale)

Sun. May 11th 1:30 p.m. - KSF - POLLY HOLLOW & BEECH GLEN TRAIL HIKE
(Re-group at Polly Hollow) Approx. 4 miles moderate with a few steep places. Expect mud.
Shorter Version: Approx. 2.5 miles Polly Hollow returning on Wildcat Ridge trail

Sat. May 17th 8:00 a.m. - WESTON-GAULEY BRIDGE TURNPIKE NAT'L RECREATION TRAIL HIKE
*celebrate the 40th anniversary of the national trails system*
(Re-group at I-79 Exit 91) Approx. 8 miles mostly flat one moderate hill between Burnsville Lake & Stonewall Jackson Lake - (high clearance vehicles a plus)
Shorter Version: Approx. 3-6 miles Hike in & out on trail the distance of your choice.

Sun. May 18th 1:30 p.m. - WINE CELLARS - NEW HIKE , DUNBAR, WV
(Re-group at cellar parking lot) Approx. 4 miles mostly moderate with a few steep places. Expect mud.
Shorter Version: Approx. 1 mile self-guided hike on park trail around lake

Sun. May 25th 12:00 noon - NEW RIVER-KAYMOOR/CUNARD LOOP HIKE
Approx. 5 miles (Re-group at New River Gorge [NRG]Visitor's Center @ 1:30 p.m.- just north of NRG bridge) First mile very steep descent; next 2.5 mi. on level rail trail; last 2.5 mi. a steady ascent along Cunard Road back to cars at Kaymoor Top.

Sat. May 31st 7:00 a.m. - HIGH FALLS ON SHAVER'S FORK, NEAR GLADY, WV
Approx. 11 miles Hike 4 miles on flat surface; 3 miles up 700 foot climb; finish 4 miles on flat surface. Bring lunch to eat at the falls.

Sun. Jun. 1st 1:30 p.m. - LITTLE CREEK PARK- TRACE FORK CANYON TRIAL HIKE
Approx. 3-4 miles (Re-group at Area #2) Several creek crossings, moderate grades, some tricky footing; geographical features to enjoy.

Short Saturday Hikes: This year we are going to try something different in order to encourage more participation. The short Saturday hikes will be discontinued and moved to at least two Sundays a month. The shorter hikers will hike with the longer hikers then part ways at a returning point. Beginning in March pay close attention to hike descriptions.

Approx 10 miles on fourth section of the Greenbrier River Trial between milepost 33.7 to Seebert. Level rail trail. Bring lunch

Sun. Jun. 8th 1:30 p.m. - KSF - DAVIS CREEK/RATTLESNAKE/OVERLOOK TRAILS HIKE
Approx. 4-6 miles. Re-group at swimming pool area. Level, then steep ascent, to boundary road, steep descent
Shorter Version: Approx. 1-2 miles along Davis Creek Trail

Sun. Jun. 15th 12:00 noon - MANNS CREEK GORGE TRAIL & NARROW GAUGE TRAIL
Approx 5.5 miles (Re-group at Camp Washington Carver 1st parking lot on the left) Moderate hike with scenic vistas & hopefully blooming rhododendron
Shorter Version: Approx. 3 miles Hike Manns Creek to campground and back along road.

Sat. Jun.21st 8:00 a.m. - CRANBERRY CAMPGROUND LOOP HIKE
Approx 12 miles (Re-group at Cranberry Campgound) Begin on the North South Trail for 5 mi. with 1000' elevation change; then 2.1 mi. on Lick Branch Trail with steep 1000' elev. change; end with a gentle 5 mi. return along the gated Cranberry Road. Bring lunch.

Sun. Jun. 22nd 1:30 p.m. - KSF - CCC SNIPE/MOSSY ROCK/MIDDLE RIDGE/SHREWSBERRY TRAILS HIKE
Approx 4 miles (Re-group at swimming pool parking lot). Moderate with several hills and some rocky/uneven footing.
Shorter Version: Approx. 1-2 miles along CCC Snipe/Forest Rd/Davis Creek Trails

Approx 3-4 miles Mostly moderate with some short steep sections
